Lineup Adventure Time series
Format: Trade Paperback collecting Adventure Time: Marceline and the Scream Queens #1-6.

Due to the immense of the main Adventure Time on-going series, several other comic book spinoffs series were launched afterwards.

The first spinoff title BOOM! Studios published? Adventure Time: Marceline and the Scream Queens. A six-issue miniseries in 2012.

As the title implies, it is a spinoff revolving around the character of Marceline the Vampire Queen.

The book was written and illustrated by cartoonist Meredith Gran, mostly known for her. webcomic series Octopus Pie.

Each issue also featured a backup feature, short stories drawn by other popular artists such as Jen Wang (Koko Be Good), Faith Erin Hicks (Friends with Boys) and many more! These stories are a great opportunity to have a look at the world created by Pendleton Ward through other artists' sensibilities.

The story follows Marceline and her rock band the Scream Queens!

The group is composed of our Vampire Queen as lead singer/bass player as well as Keila - another vampire and guitar player, Bongo - a ghost on drums, and finally just "Guy" on the keyboards - a rather mysterious dude with a very strange secret...

After playing in the Candy Kingdom, the Scream Queens go on a tour all around Ooo. Which is a great way to revisit some familiar places as well as new ones such as the Ocean Kingdom.

Princess Bubblegum didn't seem that interested in the group at first, but after listening to them play music she decides to follow along and join them as "group manager".

She leaves her hometown in the capable hands of Finn and Jake (but things kinda go sidetracked at home in the little interludes we get to catch here and there...).

It's a fun rock journey, with the Scream Queens on tour. PB discovering this world of musicians, getting to know this "Guy".

But will the band survive the hardships of touring, or will self-doubt and bad reviews get the better of Marceline?

"Marceline and the Scream Queens" is a fun adventure around the world of Adventure Time featuring Marcie and PB touring around the Land of Ooo.

It's a nice little sidestory that expands on the friendship of these two lead characters. (the backstory behind the T-shirt Marcelinge gave to Bubblegum on the show? why not...)

The story is broken off by fake-newspaper covers and other posters of the Scream Queens tour.

Each issue originally contained a self-contained backup feature. They are written and drawn by Jen Wang, Faith Erin Hicks, Liz Prince, Yuko Ota & Ananth Panagariya, Kate Leth, Polly Guo and Rich Tommaso. They are either about the tour focusing on background characters such as Peppermint Butler, Cinnamon Bun or Lumpy Space Princess, little fillers with the band or even side-stories taking place in some other places, like a tale of Jake and Lady Rainicorn or Lemongrab's very own rock band.

Finally, the trade also collects several variant covers as it is usual with BOOM! Studios comics. Those were drawn by many different unique artists which range from Jab to main Adventure Time series' Shelli Paroline & Braden Lamb, Jason Ho, John Allison, Andy Hirsch, Zack Sterling, Chynna Clugston, Lucy Knisley, Ming Doyle, Colleen Coover and more!

Overall, this is a fantastic read recommended to any fan and non-fan of the show!

As a stand-alone story, there's a lot of great characterization and this is a fun entertaining all-ages series that anyone can enjoy.

As a fan of the show, sure, this will be a lot simpler to get and gives a lot of insight on the characters of Marceline and Princess Bubblegum. There's a lot of references and allusions to past characters and settings from the show.

The art is absolutely fantastic and fitting the tone of the series. Some great terrific colors by Lisa Moore.

It's a great story of a rock band on tour, the doubts that might get ahold of you and trusting your friends with your own fears.

Simply, a great fun colorful book!

I give it:
2.5 / 3 Snoopies!
