CBR Green Lantern/Plastic Man

Time to review a little one shot from DC Comics I kept forgetting to review for the blog. (originally planned to do so right after the Plastic Man 38-page special...)

Why's that?
Is the story so forgettable I kept delaying this review? Or was it so great I just had to finally find some time for it instead of not reviewing it?

Read ahead~

Don't miss out my previous Plastic Man-related reviews!

Comic title: Green Lantern/Plastic Man: Weapons of Mass Deception
Art by Brent Anderson
Story by Marv Wolfman

Published by DC Comics
From 2011
Lineup Green Lantern, Plastic Man
Format: Special one shot issue.

Green Lantern/Plastic Man: Weapons of Mass Deception is a little random one shot released by DC Comics not too long ago.
It might look completely random, doesn't tie into any super-duper-epic-crossover-event, isn't concerned by Geoff Johns' on-going Green Lantern series and has no real purpose aside from offering a team-up between Green Lantern Hal Jordan and the one, the original Plastic Man!

For this reason, I wonder if this wasn't a canned The Brave and The Bold issue - DC's actual team-up based series - which actually got canceled shortly before the release of of GL/PM.

What is it about?

"PLAS!"

The stories is about Plastic Man dragging Hal into a case while he was himself already tracking missing weapons.
Plas' wants to help Hal.
They hit some suspicious spots, in disguise. Plas' plays a bit of his old personality, Eel O'Brien (before he became such an elastic guy).
The discover a bunch of alien "ducks" in Groucho Marx disguises (!!) dealing those weapons on Earth.

But this is bigger than them - the planet is in danger!
They actually plan on destroying the Earth, home to so many renowned superheroes!

It's a very simple yet silly story teaming up DC's famous space cop and the cartoon elastic ex-con!
The art of Brent Anderson (Astro City) is...decent actually. Very reminiscent Neal Adams.
He doesn't draw (and inks himself!) the best Plastic Man I've never seen...though his silly looking ducks are quite bad...

Overall, it's nothing special or much, really.
It's a bit hard this was written by the alien invasion expert and creator of "Crisis on Infinite Earths" Marv Wolfman himself!
And it uses such popular characters - a fan favorite like Plastic Man and the always popular Green Lantern.

Was this scrapped material for an eventual Brave & The Bold?...

At least it is sort of fun as a tribute to old Silver Age stories... Only, it takes itself way more serious.

I can't recommend this much honestly.
It's mostly only for fans of both characters, casual fans might have a problem enjoying it.

I give it:
  2 / 3 Plastic-trophies!
